Gameplay features and bonuses

Sword of Arthur is a straightforward online slot game presented by Thunderkick. It features 10 fixed paylines on a standard 5×3 grid. The game has a relatively low RTP of 94.34 and high volatility, which means wins might be less frequent but can be quite large when they happen.

Free Spins: Landing at least 3 Scatters in the base game awards at least 3 Free Spins. The round begins with a random symbol chosen to expand upon landing. However, these symbols only expand if they contribute to a win. The round starts with a multiplier for the expanding symbol set at 1x, which increases with each win scored using an expanding symbol. When a win is formed with an expanding symbol, the Free Spins count resets to its initial value.

Bonus Buy: The game offers instant access to the bonus round with 3 options:

• Regular Bonus: Trigger for 125x the bet.
• Free Spins Bonus: 5 guaranteed free spins for 200x the bet.
• High-Pay Arthur Bonus: Guaranteed high-pay Arthur symbol for 500x the bet.

Design and Soundtrack

The game features a design inspired by Excalibur and Arthurian legends. The simple gameplay is set against a structure with a 5×3 grid between two columns. Symbols include 10 to Ace cards, shields, armour, a helmet, and Arthur himself, with a special sword Scatter symbol. When the bonus round is triggered, the scenery transitions to dusk with red and orange hues in the background, symbolising sunset. In the Free Spins round, the sword in the stone from the base game disappears, representing the drawing of the sword and entering a lucrative round.

Players looking for similar games can try The Sword and the Grail by Play’n GO for a more realised theme. Alternatively, Microgaming offers a straightforward take on the theme with Avalon.

The Bottom Line

Sword of Arthur by Thunderkick offers a straightforward yet thrilling experience with its 5×3 grid and 10 paylines. The game's standout features include Free Spins with expanding symbols and multipliers and the Bonus Buy option, allowing instant access to exciting bonus rounds. While the RTP is relatively low, the high volatility ensures that wins, when they occur, can be substantial. Fans of Arthurian legends and high-risk, high-reward gameplay will find this slot particularly appealing.
