Nunchucks

Nunchucks is a NetEnt slot that brings together two ideas rarely seen side by side, a comedy-crime storyline and a cast of Christian nuns. Beneath that unusual premise, the game includes features designed to create more winning opportunities, with the aim of making sessions more rewarding and enjoyable.

Gameplay features and bonuses

Nunchucks runs on a 6×4 grid with 4,096 paylines. It has an RTP of 96.21%, medium volatility, and a maximum win of 12,000x the total bet. Most of the gameplay depends on four Nun symbols, each with its own feature, and on how those features combine during Re-Spins.

Nun Re-Spins: Nun symbols can land in the main game, Bonus Spins, and Super Bonus Spins. Each Nun that lands activates its own feature and may also award a Re-Spin. If several Nuns land in the same round, their features activate one after another before the Re-Spins begin.

Once active, a Nun feature stays in place for the whole Re-Spin sequence, and the effects of all active features combine. More Nuns can land during the Re-Spins and add their features to the round, even if a Wild covers them. Wins are counted after every Re-Spin, and the sequence ends when no further Re-Spins are awarded.

Wild Reel Nun: This Nun turns the entire reel it lands on into Wilds. Each additional Wild Reel Nun does the same to its own reel. If a Wild Reel covers part of a Colossal Mystery Symbol, that symbol becomes a Giant Wild.

Colossal Nun: The Colossal Nun places a Colossal Mystery Symbol on the grid, which can measure anywhere from 2×2 to 4×4. It then reveals a regular paying symbol, or a Giant Wild if it overlaps a Wild Reel.

Multiplier Nun: The Multiplier Nun assigns multipliers to one or more reels. When a win runs through reels with active multipliers, all of their values are added together and applied to that win. Further Multiplier Nuns place multipliers on other reels, and any that land during Re-Spins, Bonus Spins, or Super Bonus Spins add to the multipliers already active.

A Colossal Mystery Symbol that stretches across several multiplier reels counts the values on every reel it covers.

Upgrade Nun: The Upgrade Nun works differently from the others because it does not activate a feature of its own. It strengthens the Nun features already in play, and it can appear in the main game, during Re-Spins, and in both bonus rounds. Each time it lands, it applies one of three upgrades.

• Enlarges the Colossal Mystery Symbol by one size level, up to the maximum
• Doubles all active reel multipliers
• Adds 1 to 3 extra Wild Reels, if reels are available

Wild Symbols: The standard Wild replaces every symbol apart from Bonus, Super Bonus, and Nun symbols, and it always forms the highest-paying combination available on that bet way. A Wild can land on top of a Nun without stopping that Nun from activating its feature.

Bonus Spins: Landing 3, 4, 5, or 6 Bonus symbols anywhere on the reels awards 8, 10, 12, or 14 Bonus Spins. Nuns work the same way as in the main game, so they can still trigger Re-Spin sequences, after which the remaining Bonus Spins continue. All Nun features reset after each Bonus Spin.

Super Bonus Spins: If at least 1 of the triggering symbols is a Super Bonus, the round becomes Super Bonus Spins instead. The difference is that activated Nun features stay active from the first spin to the last, and new Nuns and Upgrade Nuns keep building on them throughout. The features only reset once the round is over.

Elevate Features: The game offers five Elevate options. The first two raise the cost of each spin, and the other three buy access to specific features.

• Bonus Hunt: Increases the chance of activating special features and costs 200% more per spin.
• Guaranteed Nun: Lands at least 1 Nun on every spin and costs 2,400% more per spin.
• Bonus Spins: Costs 100x the bet and guarantees 3 or more Bonus symbols, with a chance of Super Bonus Spins.
• Super Bonus Spins: Costs 300x the bet and guarantees at least 3 Bonus symbols, including one Super Bonus, plus at least 1 Nun.
• Super Nun Spin: Costs 500x the bet, guarantees at least 1 Nun, and significantly increases the chance of triggering Bonus Spins and Super Bonus Spins.

Design and Soundtrack

The crime-meets-convent premise is presented in a comic book style. Panels in the background show nuns training in martial arts, apparently getting ready for some kind of fight. On the grid, the 10-A figures share space with shurikens, grenades, nunchucks, crosses, and gold collection boxes full of money. The soundtrack fits the comic book visuals and keeps the tone consistent with the rest of the design.

Players who like unusual settings and features can also look at Demon Beats and Judgemental, two other NetEnt titles that take a similarly unconventional approach.

The Bottom Line

The value in Nunchucks comes from how the Nun features stack. Wild Reels, reel multipliers, and Colossal Mystery Symbols each add something on their own, but their effects combine during Re-Spins, and the Upgrade Nun can push them further. Super Bonus Spins show this most clearly, since activated features carry over from spin to spin instead of resetting, which makes the round stronger than regular Bonus Spins. Medium volatility and a 12,000x maximum win give the game a moderate risk profile, and the five Elevate options range from 3x the bet per spin to a 500x purchase.
