Rat Royale

Rat Royale is a Pragmatic Play slot with a dark medieval setting, built for players who enjoy grim, old-world atmospheres. Its special symbols and features aim to increase winning possibilities and make each session more rewarding and enjoyable.

Gameplay Features and Bonuses

Rat Royale is played on a 5×5 grid with up to 259 ways to win. Wins form from left to right with adjacent symbols that connect on the same row or one row up or down. The RTP is 96.52%, the volatility is medium, and the maximum win is 15,000x the total bet.

Normal Wild: The normal Wild substitutes for all symbols apart from the Scatter, and up to 3 can land on a single reel. Each one can carry a random multiplier of x1, x2, x3, x4, x5, x6, x8, x10, x12, x15, x25, x50, or x100, which applies to every win passing through it. When several Wilds form part of the same win, their multipliers are added together.

Rat King Wild: The Rat King Wild appears only on reel 3 and also substitutes for everything except the Scatter. Its multiplier range is higher, covering x2, x3, x4, x5, x6, x8, x10, x12, x15, x20, x25, x50, x100, x200, and x500, and it adds to other Wild multipliers in the same way. Each Rat King holds one of four colored gems, and the color determines his special effect.

Red Gem: If the spin contains at least one winning combination, the Red Gem Rat King expands to fill the whole reel. He then gains an extra +1x on his multiplier for every red-gem rat symbol on the grid.

Purple Gem: The Purple Gem Rat King absorbs the multipliers of every normal Wild on the grid and adds them to his own value.

Green Gem: The Green Gem Rat King works in the opposite direction, adding his current multiplier to the multiplier of every normal Wild on the grid.

Blue Gem: The Blue Gem Rat King turns every blue-gem rat symbol into a normal Wild with a random multiplier.

Free Spins Variants: Landing 3, 4, or 5 Scatters trigger one of three Free Spins variants, and each one starts with 10 Free Spins. Hitting 3 or more Scatters during any variant add 5 more spins, and special reels are used throughout the round.

Blood Ritual: 3 Scatters trigger Blood Ritual, which plays like the base game with one improvement. Every Wild that lands carries a multiplier of at least x2.

Blood Pact: 4 Scatters trigger Blood Pact, where a Rat King Wild sits permanently in the center cell of the grid. He receives a random gem on every spin, and any multiplier value added to him stays until the round ends.

Blood Lust: 5 Scatters trigger Blood Lust, the strongest variant. A fully expanded Rat King Wild covers the entire middle reel for the whole round, receives a random gem on every spin, and keeps every multiplier value added to him until the end.

Special Bets: Two Ante Bet options raise the cost of each spin in exchange for better bonus chances.

• Ante Bet 1 (150% higher cost): The chance of triggering Free Spins is 4x higher.
• Ante Bet 2 (400% higher cost): A higher chance of triggering Free Spins, with every triggered round guaranteed to be Blood Lust.

Buy Feature: Players can purchase the Free Spins round for 100x the bet, which awards one of the three variants based on the Scatters that land. Paying 500x the bet instead triggers Super Free Spins, where the Blood Lust variant is guaranteed.

Design and Soundtrack

A rat king sits on his throne beside the grid in Rat Royale, surrounded by piles of gold and treasure that mice scurry across. The setting is a dark gothic castle, its walls draped in spider webs and its entrance guarded by stone statues of rats. Four rat soldiers holding blue, green, purple, and red gems serve as the character symbols, and the card ranks from 10 to A are shaped like candles. The soundtrack matches the grim atmosphere of the castle and completes the presentation.

Castle of Fire and Sleeping Dragon Ultra Dark, two other Pragmatic Play titles, offer similar settings and gameplay features for players who want comparable options.

The Bottom Line

Rat Royale rewards players who enjoy features that build on each other, since the Rat King's gem decides whether Wild multipliers are absorbed, shared, expanded, or multiplied across the grid. Blood Lust is clearly the variant worth chasing, because a full-reel Rat King keeps every multiplier he gains for the entire round. Medium volatility and a 96.52% RTP make the game approachable, and with Ante Bet 2 and the 500x buy both guaranteeing Blood Lust, players have reliable ways to reach the conditions behind the 15,000x maximum win.
